The announcement came during a conference held in San Francisco and was broadcast live on the Facebook page of the same Zuckerberg, who pointed out how naturally unthinkable to be able to cure all diseases by the end of the century, but that the objective of the project is to significantly increase the life expectancy and access to the best therapies.
His wife Chan, a pediatrician by profession, said the disease care project is perfectly in line with the organization's mission. "We want to improve the lives of all members of the generation of Max," said the doctor, referring to his daughter Maxima.

"Then we will invest in basic research to center the obiettivodi cure diseases in the world." The mission of the Chan Zuckerberg initiatives referred to by Priscilla Chan is to promote equality between the various peoples of the world, and in particular an equitable health care for all.

The scientific program will be chaired by Cornelia Bargmann, neuroscientist at Rockefeller University in New York.

And the first effort will be to achieve Chan Zuckerberg BioHub, an independent biomedical research center based in San Francisco that will put together a selected team of engineers, computer scientists, biologists and chemists. The center will be established with a partnership between Stanford, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of California at San Francisco. You will receive a fund of six hundred million dollars in ten years.

The Science magazine interviewed with your own chance Cornelia Bargmann, who spoke lens that puts the financing program. "Medicine has advanced greatly in recent years, especially in the fight against cardiovascular disease, cancer and AIDS" began the neuroscientist. "Now that we have developed more skills and we have sophisticated techniques available, it is quite plausible to expect a further acceleration. Our initiative, also, it is granted a relatively long time. Mark and Priscilla have thought a lot about this aspect before you even tell me about it. This makes me think that they are really on the right track ". There are many emergencies that can not be solved in two or five years, admitted Bargmann.
