Robotica umanoide: l’Italia risponde con iCub, R1 e Walk-man

Eccolo in azione:

ENGLISH

Nadia Thalmann is the only person in the world to have a robotic alter ego: Nadine. Nadine is a humanoid robot that has his own appearance: brown hair, clear and soft skin, the same cut of the mouth and eyes, which open and close rhythmically. Nadine is able to perform a number of functions: answer any question, moves (but were still sitting) in an appropriate way than, for example, to a hand held or a greeting, recognizes people and, at least up to a certain point, their behavior.

He can not even deceive anyone about their robot identity, but according to Professor Thalmann the day when the Touring test will be overcome by a car really is not far away. And many people, he says, they will think that robots like Nadine can have feelings and need to be educated on this.

Nadia Thalmann realized Nadine and other robot-helpers at the Institute for Media Innovation directing at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. For thirty years, it is committed to the creation of humanoids, but was also in charge of virtual reality and studied psychology and quantum physics.

It possesses similar RoboThespian interpersonal skills, the humanoid that you can take for rent for events or trade shows. Unlike Asimo and Pepper, he does not walk but he speaks, sings and dances. RobotThespian was made by Enginereed Arts, which designed and is also perfecting Socibot and Byrun.

Nao is another creature of Aldebaran Robotics and is the best that can offer the field of educational robotics today. A programmable learning platform which was also tested in several Italian schools, even if its cost is still relatively high.

And how can we forget, what we talk about humanoid robotics, the Japanese humanoid robot clones Hiroshi Ishiguro, nearly indistinguishable from humans. Beautiful and disturbing at the same time these androids the scientist Hiroshi Ishiguro, for years the genius of international acclaim.

Humanoid robotics: Italy responds with iCub, R1 and Walk-man
We speak now of humanoid made in Italy, designed and manufactured by the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa: iCub, the child robot, R1, personal humanoid robot, and Walk-man, humanoid robots specializing in emergencies.

Equipped with tactile and visual sensors, iCub weighs 22 kg and is designed to learn, even from mistakes. simple voice commands understands, it expresses "emotions" and grabs objects measure the force, like Asimo. It is a study platform on which the IIT expects to be able to design social robots to be put on the market in the coming years at prices close to that of a scooter. Born from this experience iCub the robot R1, a personal robot designed to work with us at home and in the workplace. Him speak in the articles: R1 robot, personal robot humanoid Italian - Robot R1, price and technical details - Robot R1, what does the Italian humanoid.

Definitely more impressive iCub, Walk-man, humanoid robots specializing in emergencies is a humanoid unmanned rescuer able to walk in crowded places and crawl on the debris. Sophisticated hands allow him to drive, opening doors and using work tools.

In 2015 it ranked 17th in the DARPA Robotics Challenge, the world's most important competition for robots won by a Korean humanoid with similar characteristics to those of Walk-man. His name is Hubo and can be used in disaster areas thanks to a pair of wheels installed on the knees that allow it to move fast.

Iran too has its humanoid robot
i called Surena, and is already in its third generation. You son of a humanoid robotics project at Tehran University which dates back to 2008. Surena III is a robotic platform that is based on robot operating system (if you want to deepen this topic, read the article Programming a robot with ROS - Robot Operating System). Surena reminds Asimo and its "path" over time. It is, however, significantly more "voluminous". It is a high-six-three and weighs 98 pounds.

Atlas, the humanoid robot for emergencies
Among the most advanced humanoid robotic platforms is certainly Atlas, humanoid robot developed by Boston Dynamics. Atlas is 1.88 meters tall and weighs 150 pounds. It is not excluded in the future to use in emergency situations, particularly risky for the man. Him speak in the article Atlas robot, Google's humanoid.
Humanoid robotics, including problems and prospects
Play in a robot the same motor skills, sensory and intellectual man is an ambitious challenge, and still far from being won. In recent decades humanoid robotics has made great strides, creating intelligent machines more and more similar to us and in some cases even able to act in their place. Asimo and his companions, however, remain the still imperfect clones. So similar and yet still so different. In most cases, experimental platforms on which, probably, also they will work the next generation of researchers. Only time will tell if 2050 a team of humanoid robots really be able to beat the national soccer world champion. Whether or even twenty years earlier - as he predicted the number one of NASA, Charles Bolden - a colony of humanoid robots able to build a habitat on Mars suitable for human survival.
