Ma esistono davvero i casi di "guarigione spontanea"? Ovvero di malattie tumorali guarite completamente senza alcun intervento (standard o ciarlatanesco)?

Sì, "tanti", nel senso che essendo avvenimenti rari e chiaramente sorprendenti, sono ben descritti in letteratura scientifica, con storie anche "note" per l'incredulità che hanno suscitato ai tempi. Il fenomeno ha del magico (ed immagino quanto ne abbia per chi ne è protagonista). Tumori diagnosticati con vari esami che dopo differenti storie cliniche (rifiuto delle terapie, rinuncia di terapia per età avanzata, abbandono per effetti collaterali gravi ed altro) sono letteralmente scomparsi ai controlli successivi. Esistono diverse forme di "regressione spontanea", a volte si tratta di sparizione temporanea con un ritorno della malattia nella stessa sede o in una diversa dalla precedente, altre (ed è questo l'evento più incredibile) di scomparsa definitiva.

Si tratta di un fenomeno talmente sorprendente che la prima domanda che si fa chi si imbatte in questo evento è quella relativa alla correttezza della diagnosi. Per questo motivo, in letteratura e nelle statistiche, si preferisce catalogare solo i casi la cui diagnosi è certa e documentata.

Anche in questo caso si è notata una differenza che dipende dal tipo e dall'estensione del tumore, ma la guarigione spontanea dal cancro è un evento conosciuto. Una statistica precisa non è ovviamente possibile, i casi di pazienti che rifiutano qualsiasi terapia sono pochi, alcuni di essi sono persone sole ed anziane che si rivolgono al medico solo in tarda età e che quindi non erano stati seguiti nel loro percorso medico e non è possibile sapere quanti di questi casi non siano mai stati rilevati, qualche statistica fa una stima generale, in 1 caso su 60.000 è possibile la regressione totale del tumore in assenza di cure, altri parlano di 1 caso su 100 in certe forme tumorali iniziali o poco gravi. Si va quindi da una frequenza rarissima ad una un po' più elevata, il problema è che si tratterebbe sempre di una sorta di "lotteria": sperare di guarire spontaneamente dal cancro, anche se lecito e comprensibile, sarebbe come puntarsi una pistola in testa sperando che per qualsiasi motivo questa non funzioni. Una curiosità può essere quella che il riscontro di tumori regrediti spontaneamente è in aumento, ma questo potrebbe essere spiegato con l'aumento degli strumenti diagnostici e con la maggiore sensibilità nei confronti del problema.

C'è un elemento che molti studi sottolineano in questi casi. La regressione spontanea del tumore spesso si è notata in concomitanza con un episodio di febbre molto alta, in altri casi dopo una vaccinazione, in altri ancora dopo un'infezione virale. Questo ha fatto pensare che un'eccezionale ed imponente attivazione del sistema immunitario potesse avere un ruolo in questo tipo di fenomeno e per questo si è cercato di studiare proprio il sistema immunitario per cercare di contenere la malattia. La ricerca nel campo dei "vaccini" antitumorali infatti è in pieno svolgimento, si cerca di attivare il sistema immunitario in maniera precisa contro quel tipo di tumore in quell'organo ed inizia ad essere osservato qualche risultato (per la verità ancora preliminare).

Come detto, i casi descritti sono diversi ed in diverse forme di malattia: un melanoma, un tumore renale, addirittura forme metastatiche o polmonari, notoriamente molto aggressive, un fenomeno descritto per i tumori di tutti gli organi persino per il tumore pancreatico, forse quello con meno possibilità di guarigione in assoluto. Talmente raro e sorprendente è il fenomeno che esistono casi unici al mondo (mai successi in quel tipo di tumore). Nonostante le attenzioni si siano concentrate sul sistema immunitario, il mistero è talmente...misterioso che le ipotesi non si contano. Oltre ai già citati meccanismi immunitari si sono studiati quelli ormonali, si sono studiati i meccanismi causa di tumore e la loro "eliminabilità", visto che viviamo in un ambiente "naturalmente" cancerogeno (sapete che persino in tutte le nostre case, per un fenomeno naturale, si accumula un gas cancerogeno?) e persino le cause "psicologiche" (che in ogni caso avrebbero un legame con il sistema immunitario, noti alcuni casi migliorati semplicemente per la convinzione di essere guariti, per una sorta di "effetto placebo" potentissimo) ma non si è giunti a nessuna conclusione definitiva e proprio per questo l'argomento è sorprendentemente studiatissimo in tutto il mondo.

Qualche numero per capire la portata del fenomeno?

In una ricerca che analizzava i casi perfettamente studiabili (di regressioni permanenti o temporanee, in tutto il mondo, presenti in letteratura) e che quindi presentavano diagnosi documentata iniziale e finale, esami diagnostici e documentazione del decorso clinico, sono stati contati 176 casi in 60 anni ed in particolare:

Rene: 31

Neuroblastoma: 29

Melanoma: 19

Coriocarcinoma (un tumore del tessuto presente in gravidanza): 19

Questi casi, da soli, rappresentavano più della metà del totale dei casi analizzati. In altre ricerche nelle quali sono stati analizzati i casi di regressione totale e permanente i numeri sono molto più piccoli.

I casi di "guarigione inspiegabile" non riguardano solo l'oncologia, in questo campo vi è una mole di studi maggiore per ovvi motivi, ma in alcuni casi i medici assistono a fenomeni difficilmente spiegabili con le conoscenze attuali e per questo lo studio delle guarigioni spontanee non è mai stato abbandonato (anche se in verità, purtroppo si tratta di casi rarissimi e sporadici).

Come detto, questi sono dati curiosi e con un fascino particolare perché potrebbero portare a percorrere nuove strade nella comprensione dei meccanismi fisiologici ma è naturalmente molto pericoloso "sperare nella fortuna" in materia di salute, si tratta sempre di casi eccezionali. Per questo motivo, quando si ha una grave malattia (e quando indicato) è sempre bene effettuare una terapia, cosa sempre giustificabile come emerge, oltre che dal buon senso, anche dai dati. Parallelamente a queste ricerche, infatti, ne esistono altre che misurano la sopravvivenza da malattia in assenza di terapia confrontandola con quella sottoposta a terapia ed i numeri parlano chiaro: non fare niente equivale a morire nel 100% dei casi, anzi, alla luce delle miracolose guarigioni spontanee, nel 99.9% dei casi.

Yes, "many" in the sense that being rare and clearly surprising events, are well described in the scientific literature, with stories also "notes" in disbelief that aroused at the time. It is such an amazing phenomenon that the first question asked by anyone who comes across this event is related to the accuracy of diagnosis. For this reason, in the literature and in the statistics, it is preferred to categorize only cases whose diagnosis is certain and documented.

Again there has been a difference that depends on the type and extent of the tumor, but the spontaneous recovery from cancer is a known event. Precise statistics are not obviously possible, cases of patients who refuse any therapy are few, some of them are lonely and elderly people who seek medical attention only late in life and therefore had not been followed in their medical route and is not you know how many of these cases have never been detected, some statistics is a general estimate, in 1 in 60,000 is possible the complete tumor regression in the absence of treatment, others talk about 1 in 100 in some early cancers or so serious. It should therefore be a very rare frequency to a somewhat 'higher, the problem is that it would still remain a sort of "lottery": hope to heal spontaneously from cancer, although lawful and understandable, it would be like puntarsi an overhead gun hoping that for some reason this does not work. A curiosity may be the one that the finding of tumors spontaneously regressed is increasing, but this could be explained by the increase in diagnostic tools and with greater sensitivity towards the issue.

There is an element that many studies point out in these cases. The spontaneous regression of the tumor often is noted in conjunction with a very high fever episode, in other cases after vaccination, and in others after a viral infection. This did think an exceptional and impressive activation of the immune system could play a role in this phenomenon and why we tried to study its immune system to try to contain the disease. Research in the field of "vaccines" anticancer fact is in full swing, trying to activate the immune system precisely against this type of cancer in that organ and begins to be observed some results (for the truth still preliminary).

As mentioned, the described cases are different and in different forms of the disease: a melanoma, renal cancer, even metastatic or pulmonary forms, known to be highly aggressive, a phenomenon described for tumors of all organs even for pancreatic cancer, perhaps the with less chance of ever healing. In a study that analyzed the cases perfectly studiabili (permanent or temporary regressions, worldwide, in the literature) and therefore presented diagnosis initial and final documented, diagnostic tests and documentation of the clinical course, they have been counted 176 cases in 60 years and in particular:

These cases alone accounted for more than half the total of the cases analyzed. In other research in which we analyzed the cases of total and permanent regression, the numbers are much smaller.

The cases of "inexplicable cure" is not unique to oncology, in this field there is a greater amount of studies for obvious reasons, but in some cases the doctors attending to phenomena difficult to explain with current knowledge and why the study of healing wild has never been abandoned (although in truth, unfortunately it is very rare and sporadic cases).

As I said, these are curious data and with a special charm because it could lead to break new ground in the understanding of the physiological mechanisms but it is of course very dangerous "hope for the best" in terms of health, it is always exceptional cases. For this reason, when you have a serious illness (and when indicated) is always good to make a therapy which is always justified as evidenced not only by common sense, even from the data. Parallel to this research, in fact, there are others that measure survival from the disease without comparing treatment with one undergoing therapy and the numbers speak for themselves: do nothing is to die in 100% of cases, indeed, the light of miraculous spontaneous healing in 99.9% of cases.
